The Safeguarding Children’s Conference on April 28 is an annual event organised by the Professional Standards Office as part of the Cairns Diocese’s ongoing commitment to protecting all children.
The Professional Standards Office has staff who are trained to deal with and respond to student protection matters, allegations of staff misconduct and parent complaints.
The conference is open to all staff, parishes, volunteers and parents. Its aim has and always will be to ensure children in our care are free from harm and that our schools and the church respond appropriately when concerns about student wellbeing are raised.
Towards this goal, we invite national and local speakers to provide up to date information and practical strategies during their sessions. These sessions are evidence based on leanings from key research such as the recommendations from the recent Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Allegations of Child Sexual Abuse.
This year’s conference is focused around the theme of demonstrating our commitment to children’s safety and wellbeing, getting connected to student views, parent engagement and the Church, and being courageous in acknowledging the failings of the past while creating a safer future for all children. This is a free event and we hope to see you there!
