Cairns Catholic Education is aiming to attract and support graduate teachers and the whole range of fresh ideas and ways of doing things that they bring.
Hear from some of the Catholic Education leadership and graduates:
Every school changes with its people, its students and its staff, so having a full range of community profiles from experienced people to new graduates is a healthy mix that Cairns Catholic Education wants to have in each of its schools.
Graduate teachers are immediately made to feel part of their school communities. From a welcome Mass to professional development and mentor programs, schools are encouraging the support and inclusion of new teachers.
This includes Catholic Education Services giving back to schools increased resources to support graduate teachers in their first and second years of their teaching career.
Schools are supported by CES in developing job-embedded professional learning practices to mentor and coach their graduate teachers.”
Bill Dixon – Executive Director, Catholic Education Services
Having graduate teachers is the only way for a school to grow, and every teacher has to have a start somewhere.
They’re enthusiastic, they bring fresh ideas and exuberance and they work hard. I always take graduate teachers every year that I can.”
Liam Kenny – Principal, Good Counsel Primary School, Innisfail
We happily take graduates. The last three we had have been extremely high-performing, highly-effective teachers. We’re really pleased with what they contribute to the school.”
Gavin Rick – Principal, St Joseph’s School, Cairns
Catholic Education was able to source my accommodation for me, which is near the school and is extremely convenient for me.
Everyone has been so welcoming and has made me feel like a part of the family. I love the community feel of this school that makes every single student feel valued and appreciated.”
Kiralee Phelps – Graduate Teacher
