International Education

Every year increasing numbers of international students choose to study in Cairns. The region has an international reputation for its high standard of teaching, along with relatively low cost of living and affordable education fees. Adding to this are the benefits of living in a tropical climate that offers an immense and diverse selection of unforgettable and fascinating locations to visit.

The advantages of learning in Cairns are numerous. Some of these include;

  • Vibrant multicultural city
  • Safe destination
  • Mixing every day with English speaking people
  • Queensland’s natural beauty as you visit the world-renowned Great Barrier Reef, and Daintree National Park
  • People are friendly
  • The opportunities for learning are abundant with an extensive range of quality study programmes in Catholic primary and secondary students through to the highest tertiary levels, including James Cook University
  • Sports of all varieties
  • Experiencing a unique part of the world

Catholic schools in the Cairns region provide many educational opportunities for international students which may involve short and long term study periods. We are proud of our education system and are keen to share it with you.

Study Tour Programmes usually involve a mix of educational, cultural and tourist activities organised for groups of overseas students during their school holiday vacations. In most cases, Study Tour Programmes will be hosted by a school and will accommodate students in Homestay for the duration of the visit. In most cases, individual or small group programmes are negotiated directly with the host school.

Many schools are also happy to host short school visits of a few days by international school groups as part of a visiting school’s overseas excursion programme. Often such visits form the basis for developing school-to-school relationships.

Study programmes of six months and longer are also possible, as well as courses for Primary/Secondary or Junior/Middle and Senior Schooling. These programmes provide overseas students with excellent educational opportunities while being immersed in Australian culture for a significant period of time.

Catholic Education has developed a strong academic tradition where all students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning, valuing knowledge, truth and faith, under the guidance of dedicated teachers and support staff. Catholic Education strives for the development of the whole student; integrating spiritual development, academic success, cultural awareness and sporting participation in the context of our Christian tradition.

In Catholic Education, students are encouraged to pursue a life-long spirit. It will be found in our students, our staff, our sporting teams, our achievements, our approach to learning and our friendships. Consequently, we value enormously the gifts and talents with which our international students enrich our lives and we welcome the opportunity to nurture students in the family that is Catholic Education.

Central to the mission of Catholic Education, is the promotion of excellence in learning. It is Catholic Education’s commitment to parents and guardians to support, encourage and challenge individual development for all students and to provide a learning environment which meets their present and future needs.

You are invited to consider enrolling your student in Catholic Education and share the spirit of our schools. We look forward to welcoming you to Cairns.

CRICOS

Education providers who offer courses to international students on a student visa must be registered on the Commonwealth Register of Institutions and Courses for Overseas Students (CRICOS).

Regulation of the international education industry in Australia is founded on a State and Commonwealth legislative framework. This framework serves first and foremost to protect the interests and welfare of overseas students and the reputation of Australia’s education export industry as a whole.

Six of the Cairns Diocese’s schools and colleges hold CRICOS Provider Numbers.
