Natural Fertility Services offers a service to Catholic and State schools as well as the wider community. Students from Years 1 to 12 participate in a variety of Life Education programmes that focus on Christian Life and Human Sexuality including:
- Gentle family-oriented programmes on birth and childhood development
- Values-based sexuality for teens and young adults
- Understanding fertility patterns for singles, from teen to menopause
NFS offers programme continuity from Years 1 to 12. Family Life Educators visit schools north to Weipa and Thursday Island, south to Tully and west to Ravenshoe and Dimbulah in response to service requests from both Catholic and State schools.
Presenters experience very high levels of participation from students hungry for accurate knowledge in all areas of sexual development, presented in a way which affirms their dignity. For younger students, this translates as the ‘Wonder of Living’ programme which is presented to children and parents together; the focus of which is the miracle of life and their unique personal development. This accurate information in their formative years greatly benefits these students as they move into adult life.
Research has shown that many parents have an aversion to initiating discussion on sexual and reproductive health issues. However, if the topic has been broached in a Wonder of Living programme, through puberty presentations and secondary school programmes, parents feel more comfortable to then carry on with educating their children.
