Vision, Logo and Motto

Our Vision:

To offer every student in every school a world class education enriched by their lived encounter with the Catholic faith.

Logo and Motto:

The Catholic Education – Diocese of Cairns logo and motto was developed in 2005 to embrace the diversity of staff and students of Catholic Education and acknowledge the importance of unity, identity and shared purpose.

Central to the logo is the open, welcoming cross. Not dissimilar to the cross of the Sisters of Mercy – a religious institute with a strong history and influence in the Diocese – it is reflective of a defining feature of our schools as “welcoming to all who seek to share their life”.

Not only from a perspective of faith diversity welcoming those of all Christian faiths, the embracing arms of the cross also convey the inclusiveness synonymous with Catholic Schools.

This inclusiveness encompasses an extraordinary diversity in language and cultural background, learning abilities, styles and needs, economic background, social and emotional competence, and diverse range of interests and abilities in sporting and cultural pursuits. The open and welcoming cross, then, conveys the intention for any student in our schools to feel welcome, known personally, accepted, and able to learn successfully within the school community.

Both education and faith, by their nature, are a dynamic progression along the journey of life; multi-faceted and multi-directional…hence the stepping stones/dots along the arms of the cross.

The embracing hands around the cross have many levels of symbolism and interpretation – a protecting, caring community and environment; the coastline bordering our diocese to the East and the burnt Australian interior to the West; the outline of a candle flame signifying the Holy Spirit.

The flame at the centre of the cross symbolises the spirit of the faith central to Catholic Education and close to our hearts. The uppermost flicker of the flame is a natural extension of the coast line and acknowledges the islands of the Torres Strait as the northernmost tip of our diocese.

The colours of the logo are an extension of those of the crest of the Diocese of Cairns – blue, red, white and gold, and also reflective of our geography and location.

Our motto: Learning with Faith and Vision is just that – an evolving, quality, Christ-based education with a vision to the future and lifelong needs of our students, couched in the faith of our Christianity and our commitment to our educational purpose.
