Catholic Education Students Shine at DATTA Awards

Students in Catholic colleges won a host of prizes in this year’s Design and Technology Teachers’ Association (DATTA) Awards, presented at the Pullman Cairns International Hotel. 

The awards showcase design and technology projects produced by secondary school students across Queensland. 

This year, DATTA received an impressive number of submissions of outstanding quality and creativity. Of the 70 awards presented on the evening, students from Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns colleges won an impressive 42 awards: 

  • St Mary’s Catholic College, Woree won 13 awards, including three of the top four student awards, and was acknowledged for excellence as the overall winner. 
  • St Andrew’s Catholic College, Redlynch won 12 awards and was acknowledged for excellence. 
  • St Stephen’s Catholic College, Mareeba won nine awards and was acknowledged for excellence. 
  • St Augustine’s College, Cairns won eight awards. 
St Mary’s Catholic College, Woree won 13 DATTA Awards and was acknowledged for excellence as the overall winner.

Principal of St Mary’s Catholic College, Kerry Manders, is incredibly proud of the students and the title of overall winner of the 22nd annual awards.  

“Congratulations to our talented St Mary’s students for their outstanding success at the BLA DATTA Awards. Their dedication to design, craftsmanship, and innovation truly shone, and we are incredibly proud of their achievements in the field of Design Technology,” said Kerry. 

The DATTA Awards hold immense significance for the students who receive them. These accolades are pivotal in creating links between local industries and our school students. 

“The awards are an excellent opportunity to showcase and celebrate the creativity and high standard of work from students at our colleges,” said Bill Dixon, Catholic Education Diocese of Cairns Executive Director.
