New shade sail for garden for Holy Cross, Trinity Park

Holy Cross Primary School at Trinity Park enjoyed a special visit by the Queensland Attorney-General, Deb Frecklington MP,  who awarded the school more than $9000 for its innovative kitchen garden.

The money – a grant from the state’s Gambling Community Benefit Fund – will pay for a new waterproof shade sail, to protect the fruit and vegetables grown there from our extreme FNQ weather.

It is part of a round of $16 million in grants to community organisations from the fund.

The Holy Cross students were enthusiastic about the news, as they love their kitchen garden, growing a range of healthy, nutritious fare.

Ms Frecklington spent over an hour in the garden with the students, explaining to them how she prepares sweet potatoes and hearing how they and their teachers carefully tend to their crops.

Holy Cross Principal Sarah Hamilton thanked the government, the students, staff and the school’s Parents and Friends Association for their enthusiastic support of the kitchen garden.
